About
Hi, I’m Gonzalo. I like solving infrastructure problems, and I’m most at home where the physical and the logical meet: the rack, the cabling, the switch config and the routing table that ties it all together.
How I got here
Before IT, I managed customer service and guest relations at a 1,300-guest hotel in Berlin for 18 months. I handled the escalated cases, from overbookings to payment problems, and built the escalation process the team still uses. It taught me that a problem only goes away when you fix what caused it.
In 2025 I made the move into IT. I completed CCNA and CCNP Enterprise training, where most of the time was spent in the lab, and I’m studying Computer Engineering part-time at the Universitat Oberta de Catalunya alongside it.
What I build
- Cisco labs: multi-site enterprise networks with redundancy at every layer (BGP, HSRP, port-channels, spanning tree), VLAN segmentation, multi-area OSPF, DHCP relay, NAT and site-to-site and DMVPN tunnels secured with IPsec.
- A small data center at home: a spine-leaf fabric of Cisco Catalyst switches with fiber and copper links, a structured and labeled patch panel, out-of-band access through a PiKVM and a serial console server, a UPS with safe shutdown, and runbooks for the failures I expect to hit. It’s still being built, and I’ll write about it here as it comes together.
- Automation and cloud: I’m starting to manage my lab configs with Ansible from a RHEL machine, and this blog runs on AWS (S3 and CloudFront, set up with Terraform).
Why this blog
I write up everything I build: the problem, the design, the configuration, the tests and what broke along the way. It’s part portfolio and part learning log. If you want to see how I think about networks, the posts are the best place to start.
I speak Spanish, English and German. If you want to talk about networking, data centers or an opportunity, you can reach me on LinkedIn or by email.
